In the true spirit of Steinbeck, Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie have fashioned “a people’s opera” whose orchestral score is laced with banjo, guitar, harmonica, saxophones, and barroom piano. At its heart, Grapes is a plea for political and spiritual unity that is as relevant today as the day it was penned. Artistic Director Ted Sperling, 120 singers from MasterVoices and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s bring this novel to life as the ensemble embarks on the harrowing journey to California, seeking hope amidst adversity.
