Join Maria Lane for an evening of warm holiday remembrance! A Present from New York Past tells a charming, nostalgic, magical Christmas story evoking old-world New York City through song. Maria is joined by special guests Donna Elliott ("who exudes an intoxicating mix of classy grand dame and down to earth broad all at once" -- Kevin Scott Hall, Edge New York), Rebekah Lowin ("a natural" -- Stephen Holden, The New York Times), Stearns Matthews (2015 Bistro Award Winner for Outstanding Recording, 2015 MAC Award Winner for Outstanding Recording and Best Male Vocalist), and Stephen Kennedy Murphy ("a theater and opera director with a powerful baritone voice" -- Corey Kilgannon, The New York Times). Musical Direction by Solomon Hoffman.
Celebrated as "funny, touching, and very musical, delivering her spoken and sung lines with assurance and expert timing" by Opera Canada Magazine, and as "a clear and resonant soprano" by The Sarasota Observer, Maria Lane makes her headline debut at SubCulture New York. Maria received her BA in Music and Italian from Columbia University, during which time she also studied vocal performance at The Juilliard School. In pursuit of a soulful sound to complement her classical training, Maria began vocal styling with gospel/pop/r&b coach ILana Martin in 2012, and currently works as the Program Director at Martin's studio The Vocal Workout. An avid world traveler, Maria's past performances range from singing mass at the Cattedrale di San Giorgio in Italy, to playing Bilbo Baggins in the United States Premiere of Dean Burry's opera The Hobbit in Florida, to belting Beyoncé at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theatre in NoHo, NYC.
